“Future-Proof Your Professional Development Plans: Using the ATD Capability Model to Boost Your Flexibility and Adaptability”

Professional development can be challenging. And in this environment in which so much is changing constantly, providing meaningful professional development is more important than ever to retain your staff and to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to help your organization survive and thrive through this turbulent time.

In this presentation, ATD Maine Board Members Sheila Adkins and Richard Parent will guide you through the ATD Capability Model and show you how to use the model to design professional development goals that will give your staff and your organization the insight and abilities they need be able to successfully adapt to future needs.

Before attending the program, please complete the Capability Model quick self-assessment, a 23-question survey that will help you to see areas that will be the most rewarding for your own development. Sheila and Richard will use the data collected from the surveys to demonstrate how you might use the model to develop a professional development plan for your team.

About the Presenters:

Sheila Adkins, MS, CPTD: For more than 20 years, Sheila's passion has been partnering with people and organizations to listen to their story, understand their learning and development goals, work through their challenges, and guide them to the path of realizing their vision. Sheila is the Talent Development Coordinator for the State of Maine, Bureau of Human Resources, where she assesses organizational needs to drive talent development initiatives and manages the design and delivery of learning solutions for 10,000 state employees. She is the Founder of Swim to the Sky, a talent development consulting business, which encourages people and organizations to SOAR by creating synergy, recognizing opportunities, making authentic connections, and driving results through an inclusive culture and engaging learning strategies.

Richard Parent, Ph.D., CPTD: Richard is the President of the Maine ATD Chapter. Professionally, Richard is the Director of Staff Training and Development at Goodwill Northern New England, where he supports the team's efforts by providing the strategic vision guiding this expansion, spearheading the team's leadership development programs, and working closely with leaders across the Agency to understand and meet their teams' training and development needs. He is an award-winning educator with over 13 years of experience designing and delivering innovative learning and development experiences, leading instructional designers and instructors, and providing ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring to individuals and teams.
